The once mighty Kingdom of Atherton has met with great darkness. 

It wasn't always so.  After vanquishing a slew of tormenting dragons, with the help of its local Wizard and his jeweled "Scepter of the Earth", the kingdom was set to flourish for many years of prosperity.  By calling upon the power of the Dragon Gem nestled within the scepter's hilt, the Wizard was able to harness its powers and save the kingdom from the winged beasts. 

However, the Wizard's jealous assistant, Barnibus, decided to steal the Dragon Gem from the scepter to obtain the power that was harnessed within.  Sneaking into the Wizard's tower late one night Barnibus snatched the magical gem from its resting spot and attempted to flee.  The Dragon Gem, freed from its magical harness of the scepter,  proved too powerful for the lowly apprentice to control, and quickly consumed his body. 

All of the powers once contained inside of the gem now coursed thru Barnibu's veins as he was slowly transformed into the very dragon that the gem was designed to defeat.  Attempting to fly from the tower and escape, he clutched the gem tightly in his now dragon talons.  The Wizard entered the tower and fired one last bolt of magic, hitting the gem, and shattering it into 5 pieces.  These 5 uniquely colored shards were sent raining down upon the earth below. 

Barnibus the Dragon swooped down to grab the blue shard - now known as "The Winter Shard" - just before it could reach the ground.  With a great flailing of his massive wings, Barnibus rose above the tower wall, where he perched atop the parapet.  As he clutched "The Winter Shard", he mutated once again:  his newly acquired scales turned blue.  He was no longer Barnibus.  He was no longer a man.  He had become...The Ice Dragon!  Soaring away from the tower, The Ice Dragon let out a breath of artic blast, instantly freezing the entire Kingdom of Atherton and encasing the wizard inside an icy tomb.

The Ice Dragon's reign of terror has ruled over the kingdom ever since.

Time is of the essence, brave adventurers!  As the last of the survivors who have managed to avoid being frozen your only hope to save the kingdom from endless winter and certain starvation is to scour the land and find a way inside the ice-locked castle.  All the while searching for the 4 scattered earth-fallen shards; and risking the ultimate danger by obtaining "The Winter Shard" from the Ice Dragon himself.  Only then can you possibly reverse the curse, free the wizard, and defeat the cold scourge of The Ice Dragon's evil once and for all!
